Trecolori. Plaid Jacquard contemporanei. Showroom Torri Lana, via Pietro Calvi 1 – Milano, Milano Fall Design Week 11-14/10/2017. Lanificio Leo e Studiocharlie collaborano dal 2003. Nel corso degli anni Studiocharlie ha partecipato ad alcune edizioni di Dinamismi Museali – un festival sulle espressioni artistiche contemporanee, che per dieci anni si è svolto all’interno della sede storica di Soveria Mannelli – e ha disegnato per Lanificio Leo diversi prodotti, tra i quali una parte della collezione Triplejacq, realizzata su telai Jacquard. Il telaio Jacquard, inventato all’inizio dell’Ottocento, ha attraversato i secoli con successivi aggiornamenti, prima meccanici, ora elettronici, che hanno permesso ad una tecnica antica di arrivare fino ai nostri giorni. I tessuti di Studiocharlie sono stati concepiti a partire da un telaio Jacquard meccanico a navetta con tecnologia a cartoni perforati, che si trova, quindi, più o meno a metà strada di questo lungo percorso. Questa tecnologia dà molta libertà compositiva rispetto ai telai a ratiera, perché consente di riprodurre su tessuto disegni anche molto complessi. Questa libertà ha poi dei confini ben precisi, dati dalle regole di funzionamento di ogni singola macchina. Concetti tecnici diventano strumenti di ideazione: altezza del telaio, campi di specchiatura, larghezza del modulo, titolo del filato, numero massimo di fili in trama e ordito, tempi di orditura, lunghezza del cartone, imborso… È sullo sfondo di questo interessante dialogo tra limiti e libertà che sono stati disegnati i plaid PUNTO PECORA S-M-L, IL PLEUT, BRZZ, PUNTO PUNTO.. /// Trecolori. Over the years Studiocharlie has participated in several editions of Dinamismi Museali – a festival on contemporary artistic expressions, which for ten years took place inside the historic headquarters of Soveria Mannelli – and designed for Lanificio Leo several products, including a part of the Triplejacq collection, made on Jacquard looms. The Jacquard technique, invented at the beginning of the nineteenth century, has crossed the centuries with later updates, first mechanical, now electronics, which allowed an ancient technique to come to this day. The fabrics by Studiocharlie have been conceived starting from a mechanical jacquard loom that uses perforated cardboards technology, which is located, therefore, more or less half of this long journey. The Jacquard technique gives a big compositional freedom compared to dobby loom, because it allows to reproduce also very complex designs. This freedom then has very precise boundaries, given by the settings of each single machine. Technical concepts become instruments of ideation: height of the loom, mirror fields, width of the module, yarn title, maximum number of threads in weft and warp, warping times, length of the cardboard, embroidery… It’s in the background of this interesting dialogue between limits and freedom that the patterns PUNTO PECORA, IL PLEUT, BRZZ, PUNTO PUNTO were designed.
